I’ve been using this gut guitar since I was six years old, which means it’s been 35 years now.
This time, I used it in a film covering a Children’s Christmas song. I’m not a Christian, but as a parent of two children, I feel an inexpressible emotion when I listen to this song, even though the end of this baby’s life is the result of his beliefs.
Of course, there is no way that Mary and Joseph could have known such a future at that time, and they would have just been in quiet happiness for their newborn child, just like this song.

このガットギターは6歳の時から使い始めて、もう35年経っていることになる。
今回、子供用クリスマスソングのカバー映像でこのギターを使った。僕はクリスチャンではないが、二人の子供を持つ親としてこの曲を聴く時、この生まれた赤子が歩む人生の最後が、たとえその子の信念の結果がもたらしたものだとしても、言葉にできな感情が沸いてくる。
もちろん、その時のマリアやヨゼフがそんな未来を知る由もなく、ただひたすら生まれた子供への静かな幸福の中にいただけだろう、この歌のように。その静謐さがとても美しいと思う。
